- FREMONT - Verne Daniel, 78, formerly of Fremont died Dec. 16, 2002, in North Platte.
He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School as the valedictorian in 1942. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II for four years and was awarded the bronze star and purple heart.
In 1949, he married JoAnn Traum. He attended the University of Nebraska and graduated from the school of pharmacy. He recently received a certificate from the University of Nebraska for recognition for practicing pharmacy for 50 years. He worked with his father and later operated Daniel Drug in Fremont until 1973. He moved to North Platte in 1973, where he worked for various pharmacies in North Platte and the surrounding area. In 1974, he married Dona Freeman in Fremont. She preceded him in death in January of 2003.
Mr. Daniel was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge 985 and the P. R. Halligan Post 163 of the American Legion.
